Steps to Getting your License

  1. Education Requirements

    The following education is required for a salesperson license:

    1. Principles of Real Estate (60 classroom hours)
    2. Law of Agency (30 classroom hours)
    3. Law of Contracts (30 classroom hours)
    4. Promulgated Contracts Forms (30 classroom hours)
    5. Real Estate Finance (30 classroom hours)

    There are several options and providers available to satisfy your education requirements with both in class and online options. Be sure to select a provider that is listed on the Texas Real Estate Commission website (www.trec.state.tx.us)! Some of the providers that have been used by StepStone agents include Allied Schools, Austin Institute of Real Estate, Kaplan University and Champions School of Real Estate. Cost can vary from $500-900 depending on class and exam prep selections.


  2. File your Application with TREC

    For faster processing, Visit the TREC Website and submit your online application for an Inactive Status and pay application fee of $205.00.


  3. Get Fingerprinted

    Once your application is received, TREC will send you instructions to download a Fast Pass so you can schedule your fingerprinting.


  4. Exam

    Once your application and fingerprints are processed and approved you will receive instructions from TREC on how to schedule your exam.


  5. Sponsorship

    DO NOT practice real estate agency until your Active license has been received by your broker. Once TREC has processed your exam and you have an inactive license, Fill Out Our Easy 2-Minute Application
